Sam

Remembering Samantha Mitchell:

On July 4, 2021, at the age of 30, Sam passed away. During her short time in our group she inspired the creation of our Writers Collective, turned the dial way up on mBC advocacy, made us laugh, cry and contemplate through her honest insights, and forged many OMG friendships. Below is the bio she wrote for her Spotlight, including a link to her incredible blog.

Cancer Bio: Diagnosed in 2014 (at 24 years old) with Stage 3, and living with Metastatic Breast Cancer since 2016.

The Real Me: I'm married to my husband Jeff and living in Carleton Place with our rescue dog Maverick. I used to work in a book store doing visual merchandising - making things pretty for a living was my dream job! My Pinterest has a board titled “Pink”, I buy home decorating magazines without owning a house and have a love for musicals. I love reading and am an advocate for Metastatic Breast Cancer awareness and research.

Something I would tell my newly diagnosed self: It's okay to lean on others. It's okay (even normal!) to seek for help. Do what you have to do to get through - for me it was indulging in snacks and tv without guilt. Try to enjoy your life in the downtime. Positivity and hope are essential (when framed in a non-toxic way!)
