UPCOMING EVENTS & NEW RESOURCES SPOTLIGHT

Check out this new resource from Rethink Breast Cancer. Caroline is part of our OMG network and helped to create Uncovered 2021.

Uncovered: A Breast Recognition Project is a resource that focuses on the breast cancer experiences of Black, Indigenous and People of Colour. Through powerful imagery and genuine storytelling, it shines a light on the physical and emotional scars of breast cancer, cultural barriers and health equity. Uncovered was created in collaboration with Michelle Audoin and developed in response to the significant underrepresentation of, and lack of support for, BI&POC in the breast cancer community. Through the amplification of this collection of stories and experiences, our hope is to help educate all people, including healthcare providers, on the realities and needs of Black, Indigenous and People of Colour with breast cancer, so they are better equipped to support all the people they care for.

Uncovered 2021

This year, we are honoured to launch an expanded version of the Uncovered resource that highlights the realities of BI&POC with breast cancer in navigating the Canadian healthcare system. These stories are told through the lenses and experiences of 8 people from diverse backgrounds, including Jamaican, Nigerian, Guyanese, Trinidadian, Bajan, Inuk, Indian and Filipino voices. Learn more and read their stories in the new resource here: rethinkbreastcancer.com/uncovered/

Brunch at the

Good Eats Restaurant

207 Bell St. North

Sunday, December 12, 2021

11:00 am

Hi fellow OMG’ers -

A few of us are planning to meet on Sunday for brunch to gather all the donated socks from our Sock Exchange. Since not everyone was able to make it to Saturday’s bonfire, we’d like to extend the invitation to the group for a final gathering before the New Year.

If you’re able to attend, please RSVP by Thursday Dec 9th so that we can make the reservation. And if we don’t see you at the brunch, I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season however you celebrate this time of year.

NOTE: You must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to attend in-person gatherings, both indoor and outdoor.

4th Annual OMG Sock Drop

"cozy toesies for those we don't knowsies"

Collecting new pairs of socks via porch drop off until December 12, 2021

Every year, O.M.G.'s holiday gathering includes our Sock Drop in a ‘bring 2, take 1’ exchange. The remainder is donated to the Ottawa Hospital Chemotherapy Treatment Unit in a small gesture aimed at bringing cheer to someone receiving treatment over the holidays. This effort is so well received every year that it motivates us to keep on doing it. If anyone would like to contribute a pair of new socks to our efforts, please get in touch! We have various porch drop off locations around Ottawa. There’s so many big and little ways to spread kindness over the holidays!
